El Hotelito Perdido

Tim was great at keeping in touch before we arrived and during our stay. He explained how to get there and arranged our onward shuttle to Flores, which made everything easy. We also booked an outing with him to the waterfalls, Playa Blanca, and Livingston. It was all well organized, and we had a great time. The setting on the river is beautiful and peaceful. The rooms are clean and simple, with beds on the upper level. Dinners were delicious and generous, and the breakfast, which costs extra, was outstanding. The warm, welcoming atmosphere made this a lovely place to unwind and enjoy nature. A real gem in Río Dulce, Guatemala. Highly recommended.

Book well ahead, because you can't get here by accident and this place is very popular. Access is by boat from Rio Dulce or Livingston. We booked the large riverfront bungalow, which was huge, with two beds upstairs and a living area, small kitchen, and bathroom downstairs. The terrace was lovely for watching river life from the hammocks, table, and chairs. There's more space to hang out on the front deck by the small bar and yoga platform. The communal dining area and kitchen also have the dorm upstairs and the reception desk. Nothing seems too much trouble if you ask. Tim knows the local transport and area well, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We used the kayaks most days, though they cost extra. One day we went to the Lampara waterfalls. The next, Kevin arranged a guide for a jungle hike to Livingston, with a boat back. That trip costs extra too, and both outings were great. There are lots of birds around the grounds, with separate laundry, WiFi, seating, and dining areas. The evening meals varied each night and came in very sustainable portions. Sharing the communal table was fun, and we met some lovely young people. We stayed an extra night at The Treehouse across the river at Dos Rios. It was cute, cozy, and clean, and we could use a kayak to get back to the main hotel for meals. Kevin arranged our transfer back to rio dulce and the onward shuttle to Flores for Q175 each.

The host was awesome and flexible, and has made the place feel like a paradise where guests connect with each other. If you're young at heart, social, and love nature, don't miss it. Easily the best place I stayed during all my travels in Guatemala.

The stay was quiet and really relaxing, and Tim was a lovely host, helpful and fun to talk to. We had fantastic food and cocktails, and the spot itself is amazing. I also had a massage with Juan Carlos. It was inexpensive and really good, and he worked out the knots without causing too much pain.
