Monterrico turned out to be one of our favorite stops on our two week trip through Guatemala. We’d heard plenty about Lake Atitlan, Antigua, and the volcanoes, but not much about Monterrico. We came because we learned about the turtle conservation program, and we’re so glad we made the trip. There are welcoming locals, good food, and a laid back feel. At Cayla CoCo, Ricardo was an incredibly friendly and capable host. He found us information about the best turtle release, arranged a mangrove tour, and drove us to these activities on his ATV. He also cooked at the hotel restaurant. Ricardo and the staff made our stay unforgettable, and we’re grateful we got to stay with them. If you find yourself in Monterrico, we hope you visit Cayo CoCo to stay or eat. We hope everyone gets to experience the magic of Monterrico.

The food is the best! It’s also a fantastic spot for birdwatchers and photographers. The owner, Ricardo, is a skilled photographer himself and can arrange one of the best private boat tours I’ve ever taken, through the canals and mangroves.

We stopped in for lunch during low season, and the owner did his best to prepare a vegetarian meal for us. It was so good that we came back for dinner. Vegetarians will love the food here!

We had a great time with our group of 11 from Holland. The hotel has a lovely garden, the food was really good and local, and the owner speaks good English. He also knows a lot about all the animals on the wall.

The owner was always helpful, and we felt right at home. We really enjoyed the fresh, tasty breakfast. The hotel is in a quiet, safe area, just a few meters from the ocean. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfy, and there’s a beautiful tropical garden with two pools and hammocks.
