Hotel Casa Quetzaltenango

The rooms downstairs were dark and musty, and the showers were a much bigger problem. Most rooms apparently have the same issue, so they know the hot water isn’t working. My partner got sick after being out in the rain and then having to take a cool shower. When I asked for a discount, the customer service was terrible: no apology, no responsibility, and the discount never came. They said they were giving us extra time in the room, but that was only because a worker had tried to fix the shower and then offered another place to wash. Making sure guests can shower with hot water before they leave is basic hotel service, not a gift. I stayed at nearby places that were better and cost less.

The concierge was friendly and helpful, and the beds were comfortable with clean sheets. Rooms were very clean too. The private bathroom is tiny, but it has what you need. It’s an affordable place, just a few blocks from the park and local market, with shops and restaurants within walking distance.

I had trouble with the hot water at first, but that was my fault. I didn’t know how the system above the showerhead worked, and it seems like a good fit for a historic building like casa Quesaltenango. The price was very good, and the location is excellent, with everything walkable and Centro America Park just a block away.

The hosts are really nice, and I’d stay again. Wi-Fi was good, and the laundry service was handy, especially since they had a dryer instead of just hanging clothes to dry. The room was spacious enough and very economical, right by the central plaza. The one downside was the shower: the water was lukewarm, and I’m not sure if it runs out unless you get up really early. If you’re in a pinch and need somewhere to stay, this place will do.
