This is my third stay, and it’s been a great spot each time. It’s cheap, clean, and the staff are friendly, pretty much what I want from a hostel. It’s quiet too, once the bar closes, which happens fairly early on weekdays.

The private rooms were clean, and the owners were friendly and gave good information about hikes nearby. But the showers stayed pretty dirty throughout our visit. There are only two for the whole hostel, and the same garbage and piles of hair sat on the floor for all four days.

Kasa Kiwi is close to the park, and the owners were incredibly helpful. I felt safe with the front door fully locked. The upstairs bar is fun and handy, and the music always stopped by 10-11pm at the latest. I liked the open beds instead of bunks, and the rooms are huge and well ventilated, so they don’t get that stale hostel smell. The rooms were comfortable enough to hang out in, even though there’s no common area apart from the bar. The bathrooms can be a real wait when the hostel is full, with only two toilets for all the dorms. Some rooms face the street and get noisy. Also, lots of trekkers head out for hikes at 4 or 5am, so expect early risers.

The rooms and facilities are decent, though somewhat dated, and the staff and owner are really friendly. It’s inexpensive, but the bar gets loud, so it may not suit you if you need sleep or have an early start.

The view is gorgeous and the atmosphere is amazing. They do karaoke on many nights and gave out free tequila shots whenever you sang. They always wrapped up by 10pm, so I could still get a good night’s sleep. Best place ever!
