Mikaso Hotel

My son and I spent five nights here, and we wished we could stay longer. It was my second visit to San Pedro, and I was really pleased with how comfortable we were at Mikaso Hotel. The rooms are minimalist, and this isn't a resort with special accommodations, but the friendly staff and stunning lake views gave us plenty. The center of San Pedro is just steps away. I liked the quiet time at 10 pm. It's not a place for partying and making a racket. I could wake up to birds chirping and music from the upstairs restaurant, El Gato Perdido Bistro, which was also exceptional. Turn off your screen, talk with the locals, and unwind. I can't recommend Mikaso enough, and I'll definitely be back.

Waking up, opening the curtains and seeing the sunrise was 10/10. Our room looked out over Lake Atitlan, right from the shore, and the hotel felt removed from San Pedro's hustle and bustle. The staff were warm and welcoming. The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable and the shower and bathroom were great. There were plenty of electrical sockets, and the restaurant upstairs was lovely too.

We really liked the hotel's hospitality and the quiet, secluded side of San Pedro. The views are amazing, and you can rent kayaks there. It's a little far from the center, and the walk to the hotel passes a really awful stench.

The lake views were great, and it was quiet, but I wouldn't stay again just for those things. I don't really get why this hotel is rated so highly. The restaurant upstairs is incredible, though it operates separately. The rooms could use more of a homey feel. There was dirt on the walls and just one small piece of art, and the room had a damp, toilet-like smell. The beds were decent. The showers only got warm at most because they use a heating element in the shower head.
