Hotel Villa Nebaj

Right in the heart of Nebaj, with a cute courtyard and kind, responsive service. I stayed six nights. There are different room sizes and bed setups for singles, couples, or families. My bed was large and the mattress firm, and the rooms and bathrooms were well equipped. The restaurant was quite good and open at a wide range of hours. The fresh towel designs each day were a fun highlight. Bring earplugs, though. It’s a noisy busy street, and the windows don’t block much, so you hear cars, dogs outside, and people in the courtyard. It took a day or two to get the shower hot water sorted, and the Wi-Fi never worked. Even so, I’d stay again.

The food was good, and the pastries in the display case at the front were fantastic. There’s secure parking at the back, and the place was very clean throughout. The people were friendly and helpful. My room was small but adequate. It sits right at street level, so traffic noise is heavy, and I could hear the restaurant from my room too. I don’t think there are quieter options around here.

Right in central Nebaj, and very cheap. The restaurant food is decent and the service there is good. The showers are mostly awful, with little or no pressure, and some sinks don’t work. The walls need repainting, and it’s only somewhat clean. It’s not a bad place, but it’s not great either. One of the better hotels in the city if you have to stay here.

The breakfasts were nicely prepared and enjoyable, and the shower had loads of instant hot water, a welcome rarity in Guatemala. Those are the two reasons I’m giving it a second star. Otherwise it was filthy, really cold and damp, and parts seemed to be held together. The toilet seat hinge was electrical wire, the basin pedestal was propped in the wrong place because the basin sat too low, and the toilet was mounted on a block 20cm off the floor. Weird. Maybe this is as good as you can get in Nebaj, but it’s terrible.
