Hotel Ceiba Bissau

This may be the best hotel in Bissau, but it's far from a 5-star place. Cash only, and room service has to be paid for when delivered, which surprised me for a hotel supposedly rated 5 star. Hardly anyone speaks English, so even placing an order by room service was a challenge. I ordered beer and soup. It took a while, and the soup arrived without the beer, which came 5 min later. They brought a knife and fork for the soup but no spoon, and there was no bottle opener. Then I was charged CFA 3000 to bring the beer to my room, twice the price of the beer.

The service is below average, and this does not feel like a luxury 5-star hotel. Mold is a definite problem, pungent and widespread in the hallways and rooms.

The rooms and beds are small for a 5* hotel, and the restaurant food is below average. The hotel itself was okay. I contacted them to pay directly, and they sent me a quote for 3 nights. After checkout, they added 10% tax to those nights without making that clear in the email correspondence. In the end, booking through Expedia or Hotels would have been cheaper, so keep that in mind when comparing a direct booking with a third-party app.

Clean and comfortable, and the hotel meets international 5-star standards.
