Brandsville

The drinks at the bar were reasonably priced, though they ran out of beer pretty fast. The staff were polite, but getting help took ages. At the bar I had to catch the server's attention while she sat watching videos on her phone at full volume, and food orders took about an hour. My room never got hot water, and the AC couldn't cool it properly. A bar or club across the road played awful music all night. The food was terrible, including breakfast. They made one pot of coffee at the start of the week and just plugged it in each morning, so Friday's coffee was the same pot from Monday. This is easily the worst place I've stayed, and I won't be back.

The place has some potential, and a few of the staff were pleasant. It's in a somewhat secure area, too. But the breakfast was awful, and for the price they're asking, it just isn't worth it. They use an exchange rate of 215 Guyanese dollars to one U.S. dollar. Paying cash works out better, so I'd avoid using a credit card. It's not a five-star hotel, but if you need somewhere for a few nights in Georgetown, it could do.

The security was excellent. They even arranged taxis for me, and it was reassuring that people couldn't simply come and go, since that would put everyone's safety at risk. The staff were also very courteous. I stayed at Brandsville Hotel Pike Street in August of 2021. My room was comfortable, and I liked having a patio just outside where I could sit back and enjoy the cool breeze. An improvement project was underway, so I missed out on some of the hotel's offerings, including breakfast and the pool. Sheriff Street was only a few steps away, with places to get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I was very satisfied with my stay and plan to stay here again on my next trip to Guyana.

The food was excellent, and the hotel was clean and well maintained. For the price, it's a really good deal, and the staff were even better. Some work on the pool and plumbing, along with a few general management improvements, could raise the rating easily. I'll definitely come back.
