iclub Mong Kok Hotel

A nice surprise was the morning coffee and sweets on the second-floor open terrace. The views from my 10th-floor room were good, and the water flow was good too. The hotel was clean and had good amenities. It’s in Mong Kok, near the MTR, markets, shops, food places, and the airport bus. The fresh fruit and vegetable market nearby is a good way to sample real Hong Kong. I’d stay again :)

The upkeep was disappointing. Stains, small damages, and poor cleaning were noticeable, which undercut the bright, airy feel of the rooms. Staff weren’t unfriendly, but service felt average: check-in and checkout worked, with little warmth or attention. The strongest point is the location, with easy access to transport, shops, and places to eat around Mong Kok. Rooms are small, as you’d expect in a city hotel, but the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows bring in lots of natural light and make them feel more open. The mostly white color scheme helps too. A good location and bright rooms, but the mediocre service and lack of proper care let the hotel down.

The main gripe was having nowhere to hang wet towels after a shower, since there are no robe hooks. There are no free drinks in the room either. Otherwise, the shower pressure was great, and the rooms feel more modern than those at nearby hotels in the same class. It’s a newer place in Mongkok, not far from the Mongkok Metro stations. The complimentary morning coffee and pastry on the second floor gets packed. The hotel seems to cater mostly to international travellers rather than China travellers. The 21A airport bus is two blocks away and costs HK$ 35 per person, quite convenient for getting to the airport.

The room was clean but small, and there wasn’t much space to open our bigger suitcases. The location was good, with short walks to train stations, bus stops, restaurants, and shops. Room cleaning staff were very nice, friendly, courteous, and happy to bring an extra towel or toothbrush. They greeted us or returned our greetings. The front desk experience was awful. We stayed two weeks and weren’t greeted once at check-in or when coming and going. The staff seemed glued to their computers or phones, or talking to each other, and I never saw them get up or look our way. I understand they may be busy with guests, but this was at other times too. The stay wasn’t cheap when we booked, so I expected some professionalism. We didn’t need special treatment, just a nod to acknowledge us, especially when we made the effort to say hello. Breakfast was free, but the selection was tiny: supermarket-quality croissants, small dinner rolls, and coffee. We won’t be coming back.
