O Hotel

The hotel was really poor value. My room was just 11m2, with two narrow twin beds only 80cm wide, like massage beds in a spa. There was no wardrobe, so you had to put your luggage under the bed and get down on your knees every time you needed something. The room was in very bad condition and smelled horrible from the toilet. Its door wouldn’t close properly to keep the smell in, and the toilet clogged during the last two days of my trip. There was no soundproofing at all, and nearby Chinese guests were so loud early in the morning that I could barely sleep. The staff were unfriendly and impolite. They didn’t provide bottled water, and when guests tried to get drinking water from the dispenser in the lounge or reception, staff took it away and said we couldn’t get water there either.

The location worked well for getting around by MTR or bus, and the room had enough space for one person. The staff were friendly, though some weren’t informative or helpful when I asked for travel information. The room smelled really bad, like stale air or cigarette smoke.

We won’t come back. This was one of the worst hotels we’ve stayed in, and it isn’t child friendly. The rooms and hallways smelled of smoke even though there were no-smoking signs in the room, and people weren’t following them. It was especially bad for the kids. The staff weren’t very welcoming or friendly. Our room was tiny and looked old, and the floors looked dirty. The shower had good hot water and pressure, but there was no shampoo or soap in the room.

We were budget travelling across Asia, with Hong Kong as our last stop. I booked this thinking it was a sensible choice, but it wasn’t cheap. The hotel is in a poor part of Hong Kong, though that was okay since the MRT is 20 steps away. What still bothers me is that I specifically asked the male receptionist for a room with good AC because we were coming from cold Japan. When I entered the room he gave us, I started crying. It was covered in mold, had no ventilation, no working AC, and dirty bedsheets. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I was ready to leave and book an expensive hotel, using up my savings, because of the room’s condition. Luckily I went to the female receptionist and showed her my booking, insisting that the room was nowhere near the pictures. She was very nice and moved us. The second room was still small, but the AC worked and there was some ventilation. Honestly, for what you pay, it’s better to stay somewhere else.
