Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong

My last visit was back in the 90's, and this time I booked through the Chase travel portal as an Edit hotel. At check-in I got a letter listing the benefits: breakfast for two, US$100 credit, a welcome fruit plate, and late check-out. I used the credit for an excellent massage. My room was on a newly renovated floor, with all the modern amenities and conveniences you'd expect. The bathroom had a TOTO bidet with a heated cover, which was a nice touch. The fitness center has updated Technogym equipment. From what I could tell, though I may be wrong, as of Feb 2026 the renovated floors were 52 and below. I'd definitely ask for a room on one of those floors.

The Family Experience Team made our stay so memorable. Celina, Steven, Joy, Ella, Yoyo and Mia were warm, kind and attentive, and the family hangout space was a hit, with healthy snacks throughout the day and fun workshops. We got to make arts and crafts to take home, which was a thoughtful touch. We were on the 45th floor, which is specially designed for young kids. The room was spotless and comfortable, with a cute treehouse and slide our kid couldn't get enough of. A beautiful park is right across from the hotel, and plenty of places are an easy walk away. Breakfast was another highlight, with so many tasty buffet choices that we looked forward to it every morning. We were blown away. It's the best hotel we've stayed at, and the service from everyone was amazing. Truly a 6-star experience!

The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, a wide TV and a great view, but at this price and level of prestige, it fell short. It felt dated, and the upholstery had stains. Black mould covered the shower's tile lining, though the pattern might hide it. There was debris in the bath. The bathroom speaker made a constant white noise that only stopped when the light was off. At first it sounded like very quiet speech, and I couldn't turn it off, so I had to call someone to fix it. There were only around 5 lifts for the whole hotel, which meant long waits. Makeup remover and face moisturiser would also have been useful. The staff were lovely throughout and helpful with meals and other services. Housekeeping paid attention to where I was using things and replaced them there, like the dressing gown on the back of the bathroom door. The restaurants were great, too. Breakfast had a wide range of tasty dishes from different cuisines, and dinner at the Lobster Bar for NYE was delicious with good portions. The pool was nice, if a little small, and the gym and spa services were great.

We came to Island Shangri-La Hong Kong for our toddler's birthday, and the team made it feel truly special. The birthday surprise was thoughtful and personal, not just a standard gesture. Seeing our little one's face light up made the trip unforgettable. Everything about travelling with a young child felt seamless, from the comfortable room to the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to make the celebration magical, and they succeeded beyond what we imagined. They created precious family memories, not just a hotel stay. We can't recommend Island Shangri-La Hong Kong highly enough for a family celebration, and we'll definitely be back.
