The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the neighborhood. It felt expensive and a bit dull for La Ceiba. The hostel itself, though, is the coolest I’ve stayed in. I had a private room for four with air conditioning, and there were hammocks, a really clean kitchen, and drinking water. The staff were friendly, helpful, and clearly cared about the hostel experience. The place is protected by barbed wire.

The covered terrace was a nice place to sit, and there was plenty of room. Everything felt clean, and having a grocery store nearby was handy. The people I met at 1877 were so lovely that I’m still traveling with some of them. The hostel also kindly helped me sort out problems with my motorcycle.

Julio and Mario made me feel at home. They’re friendly, committed hosts who help with whatever they can, suggest things to do in and around La Ceiba, and give each guest personal attention. I think the city is often underestimated, and I loved my time here. This is definitely my top choice for somewhere to stay in La Ceiba. The hostel is brand new and has everything I needed: a clean, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, air conditioning, hot water, and great Wi-Fi. It’s centrally located in a safe area, near restaurants and shopping centers. You can walk to the beach and watch the sunset from the pier. I’d recommend it to anyone.

I was furious with myself for falling for this, and hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else. The taxi driver claimed this was the most popular place, but he was lying. He misrepresented both the distance and the cost of getting to the hostel I actually wanted, then brought me here instead. This place cost more, was much less impressive, and wasn’t what I wanted at all. I later overheard him asking the receptionist about his commission.

There’s a huge grocery store right next door, restaurants nearby, and downtown square is a 10-minute walk away, so the location worked really well. The facilities were clean and the kitchen was good, with everything I needed. The staff were okay, though they weren’t very interactive. That didn’t really bother me.
