Hotel Carnaval

We paid 1500L for one night in a room with two queen beds. The room was spacious, with plenty of seating and actual blankets instead of just a sheet, and the hot shower had good pressure. There’s also a 1pm standard checkout, a very good free típico breakfast with quick service and generous portions, and a convenient location within walking distance of the shopping malls, cinema, and grocery store. Excellent hotel. I’ll stay here whenever I’m in la ceiba and recommend it to my clients.

I checked out the morning after arriving and wouldn’t stay here again. I was traveling alone, and as a woman I didn’t feel comfortable with the room’s security. After I’d paid, they told me my room was actually in a different building around the corner, though I could still come back for breakfast. I’d called ahead and been told there was a room available, and they mentioned the free breakfast when I arrived. The assigned building had no lobby. Someone was there to help when I arrived and said guests had two keys, one for the room and another for the building entrance. She warned that the entrance lock was difficult. The room was mostly fine, but could have been cleaner. My main concern was a huge plexiglass window between the room and the landing. Its lock was simple and didn’t feel secure. The keys also had no “do not copy” label, so anyone could rent a room, copy them, and come back whenever they wanted. That evening, when I returned from a doctor’s office, I struggled with the lock for several minutes, which left me feeling really unsettled.

The building feels newer, or at least renovated within the last several years, with newer beds, sheets, and amenities. There’s fun art on the walls, and the South side lounge balconies have beautiful morning mountain views. Staff were friendly and helpful. It’s worth contacting them directly to book, since booking.com and expedia don’t always show rooms that are still available. Prices are great for individuals or groups, and the location is handy for Uni-Plaza, Mega Mall, Garage Cafe, local tipico, Nicha Burger, and The Hair Factory, La Ceiba. Water coolers and coffee machines on each floor make things easier, and there are lounges throughout. Breakfast is tipico, served with coffee in a clean, bright dining room. It’s not my favourite meal, but it’s okay.
