Barefoot Cay Resort

We stayed in a studio, which was super handy for getting to the dive center. The dive shop was well organized, with roomy boats that were run well, and the sites were only a few minutes away by boat. Food at Azure was amazing, especially the butter chicken. We had rainy days, so there wasn’t much to do, and getting anywhere off the resort meant taking a taxi. Still, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the island atmosphere.

We stayed in a two-bedroom sea-view villa, with clean rooms, comfortable beds, AC, a fully equipped kitchen, and housekeeping every day. The resort sits on a tiny island off Roatán’s south side, away from busy tourist areas, and a water shuttle runs between reception and the resort around the clock. Some oceanfront villas have their own little beaches, including ours. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, and the friendly, polite staff were always available. There’s a restaurant people come to for dinner, plus a well-organized dive club with several boats and its own house reef. You can also rent kayaks. A wonderful choice for a peaceful beach break, diving, or snorkeling, whether you’re traveling as a family or as a couple.

The property is very well cared for, and the restaurant served some of the best food I’ve had on my travels. We felt welcomed like family by the staff. If you want somewhere quiet to relax, this is a wonderful resort. I’m already planning to come back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

There isn’t much to explore beyond the resort, even if you rent a car, and the place is really geared toward adults looking for peace and quiet. That was exactly the appeal for us: a tiny, secluded island where you can slow down and enjoy yourself. The setting is lush and green, with birdsong and lovely natural scents all around. Our villa was spacious, spotless, and carefully equipped, and the internet was surprisingly fast. Service stayed attentive and professional throughout. The scuba diving center was also very professional and delivered excellent service. You can’t really swim at the beach because of the island’s coral atoll, but snorkeling and kayaking straight from shore were spectacular. Meals were another highlight, with delicious dishes on the restaurant menu.
