The room was awful, and there were bed bugs. The front desk guy left a lasting impression for a different reason: he called my partner a cow, apparently not realizing Czechs can understand Croatian pretty well. Nico was a good lad, though. He should find somewhere else to work.

Niko and Sonya, the day manager, were genuinely helpful and got us a full refund. The rest of the stay was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. We arrived Sunday afternoon, and things seemed fine until we reached the room: the mini fridge door wouldn’t stay shut, so staff propped a chair in front of it. We were exhausted and sat on the bed, which immediately collapsed under my partner. There were maybe 250 pounds between the two of us. At reception, a very rude man, who seemed like he might be the night manager, blamed us and said he couldn’t do anything except pull out the sofa bed. We were unhappy, but had no other option, and were told they’d speak with us the next day. Then we found bed bugs on the sofa mattress. When we returned to reception, the same man was rude again. Another guest was also there, waiting for a refund or some action after a pipe burst and damaged his room. The man threw up his hands and said, “I told you there’s nothing we can do.” I showed him the bed bug photo, and he called someone. He didn’t know I understood some Croatian, and right in front of me said on the phone, “this cow from earlier is back again…” I stormed out, contacted Expedia, and came back the next day for a refund. I’ll never return, and would rather see the place closed down.

A total disappointment in just my first four hours in Croatia. The sheets had faeces and hair smeared on them, there was no service, and the place was hard to find. The area is loud, too. For what it costs, the service and amenities are crap.

You can hear the city at night, including street noise and music, and in the morning there’s the cleaning service and other noise. The useless curtains also let in a lot of light, so resting is hard. The location itself is very central and handy for seeing the city.
