We had to move to another accommodation because of concerns about the property and a persistent ant problem. The damp, musty smell was noticeable as soon as we arrived. I initially thought the place just needed airing out, but it remained after we opened the windows. Looking closer, the windows seemed unable to provide enough airflow because their openings were blocked. Having worked with property conversions, I couldn't shake the impression that this unit, which felt like a converted garage or storage space, might not have been converted properly or to the required standards. There wasn't enough ventilation either. Even after hanging our towels for a long time, they stayed damp. Running the A/C on dry mode didn't do much to help with the humidity. When we told the owner about the ants, we hoped for a proactive fix. Instead, we were given a nearly empty insect spray and some chemicals. We contacted the booking platform's customer service and they helped us move elsewhere. The owner said we were the first to raise these problems, although we'd seen similar complaints in earlier reviews. It was also off-putting to have the ant problem implied to be our fault. Our time in Dubrovnik was mostly positive, so this stay stood out by comparison. I hope the details help other travelers make an informed choice.
