Hotel Petka

For the price and location, I’d book this hotel again. Breakfast was very good, and the receptionists were nice. Cleaning wasn’t so good, and the rooms and showers are old, though still acceptable. Ask for a sea-side room on the fourth floor, which is bigger and quieter.

The location worked really well for getting around. The bus stop and port are right across from the entrance, with the bus and taxi stations where the ferries dock only a couple of minutes away on foot. Restaurants and supermarkets are within walking distance, there’s a local park nearby with markets often, and it took about 30 minutes to walk to the old town. This feels like living in the city alongside residents, rather than staying in a resort area like Uvala Lapad. We had a second-floor room with a sea and city view, including boats, ships and ferries coming through the port. It was a busy spot with people moving about. The style was dated, though the modern headboard and cool wallpaper freshened it up. The room was very clean, with fresh-smelling linen and a properly scrubbed bathroom. There were no water marks in the shower, which I’ve encountered at other 4-star hotels in Dubrovnik. Shower gel and hand soap were supplied, but bring other toiletries, slippers and a robe. The main door handle felt loose, though it locked fine, and wind sometimes pushed open the balcony door. The TV had limited channels, and the mini fridge worked. There was also some mold on the ceiling above the shower, which was gross. The receptionists were helpful and kind. Outside the tourist season both hotel restaurants were closed, though the main one still served breakfast. The buffet was standard, like a bit more choice than you’d have at home, nothing fancy. During my nine-night stay, the women working breakfast repeatedly told off the Asian man working alongside them. It came across as unprofessional.

I stayed here with a tour in September 2017. It seemed to host many group tours for people of all ages, likely because it’s so close to the bus terminal and cruise port. A bus stop, several pharmacies and a large grocery store are also nearby. The rooms were simple but well maintained, and the small bathrooms were exceptionally clean. Breakfast was served in a spacious, comfortable area, with a pretty decent selection. A nice budget hotel.

For a one-night stay, it was okay, especially with the port and bus station nearby. The receptionist was friendly, and breakfast had a good, decent range of food. The shower needs repairs and a proper air filtering system. The A/C also didn’t work as expected. With more than 30°C outside and the room still around 27°C, it wasn’t a very comfortable stay.
