Hotel Perla

The staff were friendly, and the bus stop was about a five-minute walk away, followed by a 15-minute ride to the Old Town. The bus can get really crowded. Our twin room had a balcony, but it was small and we had to separate the beds ourselves. Cleanliness could have been better: there was dust on the bedside table and bathroom railings, and the sheet was inside out and didn’t cover the full depth of the bed. The shower water pressure was strong, even though the adjustable handle was broken. There was no kettle or tea and coffee in the room. I asked for a kettle and got one free, but had to buy tea and coffee from the bar.

Parking takes a little planning if you arrive by car instead of taxi, since the hotel is on a pedestrian walkway. There’s a lot nearby, but hotel staff need to give you the entry code, so sort that out before you arrive. The six of us had dinner at the hotel twice, and the mixed grill for two was delicious. Breakfast had lots of choices and was excellent. Our rooms were very clean and had balconies. The manager/owner was welcoming and easy to approach, and the staff were polite and professional. We had a wonderful four-day stay.

Lapad turned out to be a great choice for us instead of the Old Town. The hotel is about five minutes from a bus stop in one direction and the beach and sea promenade in the other, with restaurants, bakeries, and supermarkets close by. We had a terrace with a table and two chairs, a small fridge, plenty of closet space, and a comfortable bathroom with a hairdryer. Our top-floor room had a lovely sea view, and despite the busy promenade, we slept well all nine nights. The staff were always cheerful and willing to help, and the room was cleaned daily, so the hotel stayed quite clean. The air conditioning was strong and much needed after days at 40°C, keeping the room temperature just right. There’s an elevator to the 3rd floor, then stairs to the 4th, so keep that in mind if stairs are difficult. We’ve travelled around Europe, and this was one of our best vacations, partly thanks to our stay at hotel Perla.

Getting to the beach on foot was easy, and the old town was only a short bus ride away. The hotel was easy to find, and the staff were delightful, friendly, and eager to help. Meals were affordable with plenty of options. I really enjoyed my stay and would happily come back. 😊
