I don’t quite understand the mediocre reviews. We rented two rooms for one night at Rooms Epidaurus in Dubrovnik’s old town. The rooms were clean, and Sascha was helpful, nice, honest and straightforward. There are lots of stairs in Dubrovnik, and the rooms are upstairs, but taking a taxi to Buža Gate means you come down the stairs to reach the hotel. This is a historic town with very old buildings, not newly built five-star hotels. There may be five-star places at street level, but certainly not at this price. For this location, I think the price and what you get are a great deal: clean rooms and a working, clean shower right in the heart of old town Dubrovnik.

The Old Town location was convenient, and the owner was kind enough to help us carry our luggage up the stairs. Still, the room felt damp and not very clean. Everything we brought, even clothes that had been clean, smelled musty afterward. We could also hear guests upstairs, the neighbors, and people walking by outside. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
We had a nice stay, and Peter was friendly and quick to help. One thing to plan for is the luggage route: coming from the center means a lot of stairs. It’s easier to start at the bus stop and head straight there instead of entering through the walls. Find Lady Pipi restaurant on Google Maps; just before it, stairs lead down to the hostel room. That route saves you from hauling your bags up.
They answered every WhatsApp question right away, and our room was very clean. We had a good time there. Ours was in the attic, which was pleasant, though the low ceiling made it a bit uncomfortable. There’s no elevator and it’s all stairs, as seems to be the case throughout the city.
Being right in Dubrovnik’s Old Town made it easy to explore the lanes and city walls, with plenty of restaurants and fast food close by. Getting to the Airbnb takes some effort, though: expect more than 80 steps and then another three floors, depending on your room. The room I had also sloped throughout, a little like being aboard a boat out on Pure Pure water. If that sort of thing appeals to you, you may like it. The price-to-quality ratio at 1:30 was quite good.
