Hotel Stari Podrum

We came for lunch and had a great experience. Our restaurant host, Damir, was very helpful and gave us excellent advice about what to order. We tried three different meals.

The wine cellar tour was interesting, and you can taste and buy wine there. Parking nearby is free. The tour itself was 15-20 minutes, including questions and answers, and the place has an interesting concept. The organization, though, was poor. We visited on a public holiday, which is usually busy. They don't take table reservations for fewer than 6 people, but I was reassured that two of us could eat after the tour. Then, when we finished, we were told there was no room for us at lunch. We had to try several restaurants before finding somewhere to eat. I wish the communication had been better.

I emailed two weeks before our visit to check whether we could do a wine tasting during a short stop in Ilok on our river cruise. They told me the two of us could just walk in, with no reservation needed. But after we stood in the tasting room for about five minutes, around five employees walked past without acknowledging us. Then we were told they wouldn't serve us because there was a large group in another room. Quite disappointing.

It's always lovely to come back to Ilok and enjoy the amazing wine and food. Thanks so much for the hospitality during our stay, and special thanks to Zlatan for remembering our orders in advance and taking such good care of us. See you next year.
