Biokovka Spa Hotel

The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the restaurant staff and their female boss. My room was very clean, with fairly new furniture and beds, and the toilet area had plenty of space. The beach is only about 40 meters from the room. I know some people don’t care for the food, but to me it tasted homemade and took me back to my childhood. Yes, it’s a hospital or rehabilitation center, but the people who are sick or in difficult circumstances won’t harm you. They’re more than willing to help if you need it.

It felt like a mediocre hotel from communist times. I even wondered if Comrade Tito had stayed in our room. We were traveling as a group of wheelchair users and got little help with our luggage. There was no fridge in the room, and at dinner you had to buy all drinks because no water was provided. The shower chair was nearly corroded through and unsafe, as the photo shows. Mattresses were blocking the fire doors. Several days later, we still hadn’t received any response from the hotel.

The restaurant was a horrible part of the stay. The food was disgusting and sometimes inedible, and I repeatedly found dirty glasses or cutlery with food still on them. I raised it with staff several times, but it kept happening. Bags aren’t allowed in the restaurant, and if you bring one, staff inspect it on the way out to see whether you’ve taken any of their awful food. Waiters choose your seat, and with too few tables you have to sit beside strangers. The hotel itself is neglected and outdated, and staff often don’t speak English. The price in no way matches the quality or service. I wouldn’t go back even if they paid me. It was a horrible experience, not a vacation, and I was glad to leave. I’ll never return. Stay away if you care about your mental health. The stay began with an alarming breach of my privacy. I booked through the official Biokovka website, and two days later a random man had misused my private GDPR information to find me on Instagram and Facebook. He knew my name, date of birth, and exact hotel dates, then sent me a private message asking me on a date. I was really scared and felt unsafe throughout my stay. This kind of behavior by hotel staff is completely inadmissible and illegal.

The rooms were clean and nice, though the beds felt a little hard. The food wasn’t varied and probably won’t suit Scandinavian tastes. There was no fresh fruit, only fruit salad, and that wasn’t fresh. There was almost no gluten-free food. The meat came soaked in brown sauce, and the food had a lot of oil and fat. We’d requested gluten-free meals when booking, but still had to ask for an alternative, which turned out to be just white bread. Coffee was only available at breakfast. At local restaurants, though, it was no problem to get fresh gluten-free food.
