Apartments Terra I & II

Sunday and Monday nights were quiet, but Saturday was a different story. Music from the bar directly beneath my first-floor windows kept going until 3:45 am. After that, I heard glasses clinking and people talking loudly until 5:20 am, with the bass literally pulsing through the walls. I paid $141.00 a night and barely slept. Mikel knew there would be an anniversary celebration. Who celebrates an anniversary in a bar playing rock music? Other comments I read also mentioned very loud music on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Mikel said the apartment is in the town center, surrounded by bars, so Saturday noise is expected and not out of the ordinary, and he took no responsibility for it. He also said it affected only one night, since Sunday and Monday would be quiet. I found that logic absurd. He shouldn’t have rented it out for those nights. Many hotels have quiet hours from 10 pm to 8 am, which seems like a reasonable time for people to sleep. 3:30 am is far too late. It felt as if he was saying that noise until then is fine in the center, and if I didn’t like it, I shouldn’t stay there. That made it sound like I was wrong to expect a quiet Saturday night. I’ve stayed in plenty of central places with no bar directly below the apartment, and they were quiet. Grand Hotel Bonavia, a four-star hotel near Burger King, is a five-minute walk away, just off the pedestrian-only area, with an elegant restaurant nearby. None of its comments mentioned noise, only the lack of parking, and I didn’t have a car. It cost 100 Euros with breakfast. The Booking.com pictures look doctored and brighter than the actual lighting. Look at the corner by the dresser: there’s no light there, yet it looks bright in the photos. The living room has just one overhead white light, and there’s one in the bedroom too. There’s clutter everywhere, signs, notices, travel literature, even a meaningless sign saying “this bed is made with love.” Something is even sitting on the windowsill. There’s no clear surface to use without moving things first, so it feels overwhelming and overfurnished. There are 12 fake plants inside and one just outside the entrance, 13 in total, including one in the bathroom. It looks like a fake plant department at my Dollar Store. The same room has yellow incandescent lighting without a lampshade, so you have to avoid looking at it, along with a white light. That combination made me uncomfortable. The freezer was full of ice and needed defrosting. Both pillows were the same size, and one was too high for me. Many hotels offer two pillow sizes or pillows with a firm side and a soft side. It’s 34 steps up to the second floor, two levels without an elevator. In the bathroom there was an empty conditioner bottle. There are two dispensers, one green and one blue, but the blue one was empty and neither was labeled. I couldn’t tell whether the shampoo or body wash had run out. I felt scammed and cheated by the owner, and found him deceptive and dishonest. Remodeling such a nice apartment directly above a bar that plays loud music was a bad business decision, and we clients end up paying for his mistakes.

The apartment was clean and comfortable, in perfect condition. It’s in a great spot near the ferry and bus stop, and the directions were clear. The price was affordable, and the owner replied quickly. We even got a free early check-in, which was a nice extra. Thanks, I’d recommend it to anyone.

We felt right at home during our two-night stay. The apartment is new and fully equipped, and Mikel even upgraded us to a larger one. Check-in was easy, with clear instructions. It’s right in the heart of Korzo, with lots of places to eat nearby and the central bus station about a 15-minute walk away. Highly recommend it for a visit to Rijeka.

Bars and restaurants are all around, but the apartment itself was surprisingly quiet. It’s right in the middle of town, and our room was clean and comfortable. It’s on the second floor, so there are steps, though the walk up is easy. Mikel was very helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay.
