The place looked nice and was clean, and there was one lovely woman at reception, but the stay was frustrating from the start. We couldn’t find the hostel because there was no clear sign, the door was shut, and nobody picked up after more than six calls. A woman passing by had to sign the entry code to us. It felt like a treasure hunt. After that, nobody answered the buzzer until two guests who’d been waiting let us in. We were eventually checked in. The bathroom was tiny and smelled awful all three nights. The shower doors were see-through, the water was cold, and one bathroom door wouldn’t close. At one point there was only one toilet and one shower for all the women staying there. You can’t open more than one bathroom door at once without them hitting each other. There were no locks on the bedroom doors or curtains on the beds. The beds were wobbly and noisy whenever anyone moved, and the blinds couldn’t be opened, so the room stayed dark all day with no privacy. The hostel says it’s for ages 18-45, but I met a guest who looked at least 75. They also charge €5 to leave a bag at reception for a couple of hours, with no locker or separate storage room. The snoring in my room was unreal, like a lawnmower, though I know that’s not the hostel’s fault. Not a very functional hostel, even if it looks alright.

The toilet and shower are in the same tiny room, with just two of each and one hair dryer. The shower doors are half transparent, so you can see the toilets right next to them. I requested a lower bunk and got one. Each person gets two lockers, but you have to bring your own lock. They charge to store luggage.

The staff were nice, and the location is hard to beat, about a three-minute walk from Split’s old town. The plaza outside becomes a lively local food market in the morning. It’s an apartment on the first floor, and the building’s layout doesn’t really suit the hostel setup. There wasn’t a proper communal area where people could gather, and the kitchen felt cramped with a sofa squeezed in. Maybe they could make a common room by giving up one of the bedrooms. There’s no bar or food, though that’s just how the place is. A partnership with the coffee shop downstairs might improve things. Also, we spent a solid 15 minutes trying to find the entrance in the evening because it needs a bigger sign. It’s a hostel and it does the job. I stayed one night.

I found the staff inflexible and unfriendly, with little consideration for what guests needed. The stay was pretty unenjoyable. This place feels like a disaster compared with other youth hostels, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone or stay again myself.

The beds shake and make a lot of noise whenever the person on the top bunk turns over. There are only two bathrooms for this many rooms, and neither has anywhere to put your clothes while showering, not even a small hook. The worst part was being charged €5 to leave my backpack after checkout. I sat in the kitchen for just 20 minutes to finish packing, and the receptionist told me I had to leave, even though the room was empty, I wasn’t bothering anyone in the common area, and I wasn’t planning to stay. That was really rude. Please reconsider this policy. I’ve never had hostel staff treat me like that before.
