Palace Augubio

The rooms are modern and comfortable, with a good shower and Chromecast on the TV. Sound carries through the stone, and the bells start ringing early, so bring earplugs. The location is hard to beat: the tower is only a minute away, but once you’re through the little courtyard at the hotel, the bustle of the centre is barely noticeable.

Ivana was a wonderful host, always happy to share local knowledge and point us toward good places to go, which made the stay easier and more memorable. You’re staying in buildings that were part of the ORIGINAL palace, with modern comforts added. Thanks, Ivana. We’re looking forward to coming back in a couple of weeks.

Getting around is easy from Palace Augubio: restaurants and shops are close by, and the ferry port and train and bus stations are walkable. The rooms are nicely renovated, with fridges, air conditioning, and toiletries, and cleaning was spotless, with fresh towels every day. Check-in and check-out were simple. It’s a great-value place in the heart of Split old town and Diocletian's Palace. There’s no lift, and you’ll need to climb some stairs. I didn’t mind, and I really enjoyed the stay, but it’s good to know. The soundproofing could be better too. Given the location, there’s nightlife nearby, and street noise can be heard throughout the day.

We’ve been passing through Split on our travels since 2006, and I’m so glad we found Palace Augubio. The location is incredibly easy to find: go straight through the Golden Gate and take the small alley off the main square. Ivana was a fabulous host and communicator. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and clean, with secure keypad entry. The whole property felt very Covid safe, with sanitizer and wipes at the entrance and inside.
