Palace Tartaglia

There was some street noise, which makes sense since the hotel sits right in the middle of everything. Still, I'd stay here every time I'm in Split. The room had loads of charm, and the location was perfect. Marco, the owner, met us at the airport early, arranged a transfer for 40 euro, and was really nice and knowledgeable. As for the stairs people mention, it's a 300-year-old palace, so stairs come with the building.

The room felt new and was comfortable, with great AC, which you really need in a Croatian summer. It's right in the pedestrian old town, a great spot. Be ready for around five flights of stairs and no elevator. They carried our bags up, but we had to manage them ourselves on the way out. I'd still recommend the place.

Once we found the guesthouse, we had a pleasant stay. The owner greeted us, was quick to respond when we needed anything, and our room matched the photos. Both the room and bathroom were very clean and nice, and the air conditioning was a real blessing. I only wish there were bigger bins in the room. Finding it at first was tricky. We didn't have a SIM card for GPS yet, and even two nearby locals who helped us had to look it up. It's right across from the Spar grocery store, though, which should make it easier to spot. If I get the chance to visit again, I'd book this guesthouse and hope for the same room.

It's a cute, comfortable room, though the bed is on the small side. The place is in a slightly odd spot above an art gallery, and getting up means climbing four or five flights with no elevator. That wasn't an issue for us, with gelato shops on every corner, but it definitely wouldn't work for someone using a wheelchair.
