Villa Donat Hotel & Dependence

The staff weren’t friendly and seemed to want to be left alone. Breakfast was pretty sad, with a bit of variety but nothing made well. The rooms are tiny, smell of cigarettes, and the walls are so thin you hear everything. The hotel feels very old, like it hasn’t been renovated since the 1980s.

The nearby church bells were the reason I couldn’t give this five stars. They start at 6 in the morning and ring for two or three minutes, then again at noon and at irregular times in the evening, though 6 pm and 8 pm are regular. After a few days it was really disturbing, especially with an infant. The hotel has two buildings: the main one is 4-star and the annex is 3-star. The 4-star rooms are cozy and nicely furnished, with French windows; the 3-star rooms are very small but okay. Staff were lovely and helpful. Restaurants and shops are a 3-minute walk, the beach is 5 minutes away, and breakfast had plenty of good choices. One of the better places to stay in Croatia.

There were three of us in a room that was far too cramped. Two beds left barely any space for the extra cot, so we couldn’t move around. The third bed didn’t have an extra quilt, the room wasn’t clean, and the toilet wouldn’t flush.

A quiet spot, though some noise carries over from neighboring rooms. It’s a bit away from the sea, and breakfast was average.
