After five weeks travelling around Europe, Korkyra was the worst hotel of our trip. We booked Family Comfort Room 415 and arrived to an angry, smart-aleck receptionist, whose name I won’t mention. In the room, the hot tap on the right side of the vanity didn’t work, and three bulbs above the mirror were out. There was no shower soap, luggage rack, tea or coffee setup, or complimentary water. Ironing boards and irons weren’t available, and there were no slippers or dressing gowns despite them being advertised. The town water is heavily chlorinated. The lift’s down button didn’t work, and we were on the fourth floor. We also couldn’t borrow pool towels to go to the “beach.” Eventually we got a kettle, but it was so old and stained inside with chlorine residue that even bottled water smelled of chlorine after boiling. The tea tasted accordingly. We later got shower soap in little foil sachets that had to be torn open and squeezed. It took ten sachets for one shower, so we bought our own soap at the supermarket. At breakfast, my request for poached eggs got me boiled eggs instead. They couldn’t make an omelette, and the coffee machine used syrup rather than beans. The coffee tasted as you’d expect. To be fair, the pool was nice, and the younger reception staff, including Zlata and the South African receptionist, were helpful and pleasant. The restaurant waiters, including Suraj, and maitre dee Sasha also did a great job. I could go on. Our experience certainly didn’t match the advertising.

The bay view is great, and you can walk easily to anywhere in town or around the bay. There’s a private parking area right next door, for 7€ a day. Our family room was nice and just spacious enough. We knew the sofa bed might be a little small, as they’d been clear about that. The bathroom was very large. The pool area was clean and nice, and breakfast was good, with some items changing each morning. A few young people served in the restaurant; service was a bit slow at times, but understandable. I’d recommend staying here.

Right in the center of Vela Luka, so it’s a perfect place to stay. My only reservation is about the restaurant staff from abroad. Sometimes they stand very close to your table, waiting for you to put down your cutlery so they can take the plate. It can feel like someone is watching for the moment you finish eating, which isn’t always comfortable.

The sauna was amazing, the views were gorgeous, and both the room and bed were comfortable. Everything felt clean, and the location, staff, and facilities were all perfect. I loved staying here.

The hotel sits right at the port, in a convenient spot, and serves a fresh, tasty breakfast. It has private parking, though you may find free spaces nearby. Just avoid leaving the car in the port’s paid parking area. There may be free spots on the narrow street behind the hotel or close by. We’re a Spanish couple, June 2024.
