Atlantic Hotel

The bed was fairly comfortable, Keleti train station was close, and the hotel staff were friendly and kind. We could get the safe key at reception after paying a deposit, which was returned at checkout. The problems added up, though. Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, and I couldn’t pay by card, so I had to get cash from an ATM. Bring some with you if you can, since nearby ATMs charge fees. Our window faced inward, toward the restaurant, so there was no fresh air and we didn’t sleep well. We could hear people walking and talking and opening doors. With the window open overnight, we smelled frying oil in the morning, probably from 5 or 6AM. The shower was tiny, the toilet had lots of cracks, and there was only one nightstand for the two of us. Toiletries were just one small round soap and a single-use shampoo. Our cups were filthy, so we had to clean them ourselves. There was no tea or coffee, so we went to the nearby Tesco, less than 5mins away. Breakfast wasn’t very good and didn’t have many options.

The staff at reception were helpful, but they seemed to have lost any love for the place. The hotel itself felt tired and uncared for, and the breakfast was all right, though you’d be better off eating elsewhere. We’d chosen a cheap getaway to Budapest and this hotel was recommended to us. I’m not one to moan, but it’s surely scraping the 3 ⭐️ rating. Our room was very basic, which would have been fine just for sleeping, except it was dirty and mouldy. There were no proper curtains, and the shutter didn’t work. The bed sloped so much I nearly fell out a few times 😂, and the shower was made for a dwarf. I felt like I was staying in a prison (Pictures added). When we asked about somewhere to eat, we were told there was nothing local and Hungarian, just a McDonalds and a Chinese. Covid hit the street bad, I’m afraid. For entertainment you have to walk 20/30 minutes toward town. Then we were woken at 2am by someone shuffling around at our door, trying to get in. I hope it was just a drunk person who’d got lost. They soon disappeared when I shouted.

The location is central, and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was decent, and the kitchen staff were friendly. Roger at reception was especially helpful, offering tourist and meal recommendations and calling a cab for our airport transfer.

The beds were comfortable, but the rooms were old and dirty. We could hear the train passing early in the morning, and the noise insulation wasn’t good, so we could hear the neighbours too. The receptionist downstairs wanted 800 for a 1.5L bottle and would only take cash. In euros, he was demanding 3. The receptionist’s attitude wasn’t good.
