Budapest Promenade Apartments

The breakfast was the real letdown. The scrambled eggs were runny on day one, then tasted burnt on days two and three. The croissants seemed like packaged ones that still needed baking, and the bacon was piled into the pan with five strips on top of each other. Tables weren’t cleared promptly either. The location was very good, and the rooms were okay, with nice firm beds and a good bathroom.

The location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. They don’t offer early check-in or late checkout, and checkout is at 11. At 11:09, while we were still packing and brushing our teeth, someone called our room to tell us to leave. I’ve never had a hotel call me less than ten minutes after checkout before. I choose hotels for service and flexibility, and this was so disappointing that an Airbnb would have been a better choice. Avoid it.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the hotel is nicely placed in the center on Váci Utca. In my single room, the bed was smaller than standard and really only suited one person who isn’t very large. I’d book a larger room next time. The shower rod was a bit broken and wouldn’t hold the showerhead properly. I reported it at reception, and they got it to hold, but left the broken part unreplaced.

The staff were the highlight for me: friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and I can’t praise them enough. Breakfast had plenty of hot and cold choices, a great way to start the day. We stayed three nights and found the hotel very well located, about five minutes on foot from the airport bus interchange and the Danube, with lots of nearby bars and restaurants. I’d come back without hesitation. The only reason I didn’t give five stars was that our room stayed quite hot, even though the air conditioning seemed to be working.
