Budavar Bed and Breakfast

The location is excellent, and the views from the breakfast dining area are wonderful. Breakfast was included and sufficient, with a small selection of meats and cheeses, bread, cereals, yogurt, and coffee. I’d stayed at Bellevue next door before, but tried Budavar when Bellevue was booked out. Our main problem was how clean the rooms were, especially the bathroom. There was long black hair in several spots, and since we have short, brown curly hair, it definitely wasn’t ours. After we told the hotel owner and manager, Viktor, while his cleaner was there, things somehow got worse. We found even more hair, including in unexpected places, after she went into our room again. We think the cleaner may have retaliated by placing it there, though it sounds ridiculous and we can’t explain it otherwise. When I emailed Viktor to explain more, he never replied or apologized, or said he’d look into it. If cleanliness and being able to trust the cleaner matter to you, look elsewhere.

Viktor was a kind, welcoming, and helpful host throughout our stay. The room was neat and clean, with basic facilities including air conditioning, which was a real plus in summer. We also found it easy to get around, with bus stops for lines 16 and 216 very close by. Budavar Pension is perfectly placed for a visit to Budapest, just a short walk from the Fisherman's Bastion. Our room had an amazing view of the Hungarian Parliament, especially at night. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Buda Castle district.

We biked in, and Victor had an easy-to-reach garage where we could store our bikes and chariot. Our 3 year old son loved staying here too. The room was large and well furnished, and Victor was a great host. The hostel sits high enough on the hill to get away from the inner city’s pollution and noise, while still being close to the bridges for getting into town. A great find in a busy city, and I’d highly recommend it over anywhere else in the city.

We got in very late, at 02:00, but the host had left the key somewhere easy to find so we could get in and rest. He was gracious and hospitable, and even offered to keep our bags at the B&B after our scheduled departure. The breakfast was delicious, and we could eat outside on the porch with a beautiful view. For our four day trip, this was a wonderful, quiet place near the Bastion, and the price was very reasonable. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with nice beds, a safe for valuables, hot water, a clean shower and bathroom, a porch with a view, and air conditioning that really mattered in August. There are mini markets nearby. Down one road you reach the end of the chain bridge, with bus stops and a public transportation ticket machine. The other way leads to another bus station, a metro station, and a supermarket. Budapest is beautiful, with comfortable public transportation, old decorations on all the buildings, friendly people, cafes and restaurants everywhere, and lots of historical points to visit.
