Chesscom Guesthouse

I’ve stayed here several times when I needed to be in Budapest but wanted to avoid driving in the city. The free parking is a big plus, and the location works well: the metro, bus station, and 200E airport bus are just around the corner, with a mall nearby for shopping. The rooms are clean, with decent WiFi and hot water, but their size and layout vary a lot depending on what you book. My attic room in the guesthouse was spacious and had AC, though carrying suitcases upstairs was tough since there’s no elevator. The compact twin room was narrow but long. It was fine on my own, but two people might find it tight with luggage around. I’d stay again if the price suits my dates.

Friendly, helpful staff and clean rooms with good equipment for the price made this hotel excellent value. The location may seem less central at first, but the 200E airport bus stops at the nearby metro station and costs less than the 100E bus into the centre. From there, the metro ride to the city centre is reasonably quick.

For a short overnight stay before catching the early 200E airport bus, this worked well. I was in a guesthouse room, where there was no sound insulation, so I could hear traffic, rain, and people talking in the next room. The main hotel may be better.

The room was tiny and noisy, right beside a road, and the headboard was dirty. There were traps under the bed, so I wondered if there might be insects. We also had to go to reception on another road after arriving at the address, even though it was nighttime, and then learned there was an extra tourist tax. There was no iron, either. At nearly 85 euros, it felt far too expensive for such an uncomfortable place. We chose it based on the reviews, but once again I came away feeling like the reviews might be fake.
