Four Points By Sheraton Budapest Danube

The staff are really helpful, and there are several nice cafes and restaurants nearby. It’s a quiet, pleasant area, and the river-facing rooms are amazing. We could watch a lovely sunset from the balcony, and breakfast was good. The old town is a 25-30 mins walk or 10 bucks by taxi. This is one of the best Four Points I’ve stayed at, with only the Four Points in Sydney coming ahead of it. Amazing.

I expected much better from a Marriott brand hotel. My stay was seriously affected by several housekeeping and service problems that fell well below Marriott standards. My T-shirt was taken from the room with used towels from other guests during housekeeping. It was returned later, but had been mixed with those dirty towels and was unusable because of the obvious hygiene contamination. Housekeeping also removed a whole lemon I was using for tea from a hotel plate provided by the bar. A staff member handled the lemon directly and left it on the table beside my personal belongings, including my wristwatch. That felt like a serious hygiene and privacy violation. Shower gel and tissues, basic amenities, also weren’t replenished. The way my complaint was dealt with made things worse. I explicitly asked to speak with a manager and was told he wasn’t available. The next day, after I’d been told he would be there, I asked again and was again told he was unavailable. A front desk agent instead said she had spoken with him and that he refused compensation, without him ever speaking to me directly. Being repeatedly denied access to a manager and then given a decision indirectly was unacceptable. No compensation was offered proactively. I received a complimentary breakfast only after going to reception myself, complaining, and explicitly asking for compensation. I never agreed that breakfast would resolve the matter, yet the hotel later claimed the issue was closed. There was confirmed hygiene contamination, mishandling of my personal belongings, interference with my food, and poor complaint handling. I’ve escalated the case to Marriott Guest Relations because it wasn’t resolved appropriately at the property.

Even with Gold membership, the management and front desk staff didn’t seem to know what Marriott membership benefits meant. Don’t expect any perks if you’re a member, it was totally worthless for us. We won’t be coming back and highly recommend choosing somewhere else.

I slept so comfortably, that bed gets 10 stars from me. The hotel is modern and stylish, and I really liked all the different dim lighting options.
