We had to stay in Budapest for a railway course that ran for several months, and after being moved from our previous hotel, my colleague and I spent one night here. The place felt depressing, and the stay was disgusting. The kitchen electricity worked on a 10-15 minute timer, and the rooms had no cooling at all in midsummer, not even a fan. The carpet and sheets were dirty and stained, including with blood, and the bathroom was so bad I'd rather not describe it. There wasn't a separate bathroom for the rooms. My colleague was bitten by bed bugs, though luckily I wasn't. It may be cheap, but there are better places at the same price. It seemed like it might once have been a dormitory, hospital, or other medical facility. There were also people I couldn't identify, perhaps Asian or Indian, who were unbearably noisy.

It can work well for a group, with rooms offering either separate or attached washrooms. Still, staying here didn't feel like being in a European city or country. In terms of the city's overall culture, Budapest fell short of my expectations. Maybe that's because of the weak economy.

The staff were lovely and let us check in early and leave late without charging extra. For the price, it's a very nice hostel and reasonably close to the Szecheny Baths. The shower was a bit dirty, though not beyond what I'd expect at this price, and the WiFi was pretty unreliable.

The guarded parking lot was a big plus, and there's a quite good restaurant in the building. The staff were exceptional. It's a one-star hotel, and most guests seemed to be construction workers, but they were fine, with no nighttime noise or arguments. The shared showers were the main drawback because they had no shower heads, perhaps because they had been stolen. WiFi was unstable, so I wouldn't count on work video calls.

Lots of Tesco markets nearby. The place is cheap, with a restaurant and free parking behind the building, but the showers and kitchen are shared by too many people. Rooms have TVs with only five channels and no remote. If your phone has IR, you can use Unified Remote. There's free open WiFi.
