Maison Bistro & Hotel

The man who welcomed us on arrival was kind and ready to help. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. The buffet disappointed us, though the hot dish was nice. The location is about five minutes from the fisherman’s bastion, but quite far from the actual city centre. The staff were understanding when we missed checkout because we thought we’d booked one more night. Still, the hotel felt very overpriced for what it offered. Staff were cold toward us and never greeted us as we came or went. Our room needed renovation or at least redecorating. I could have accepted the kitschy rustic look if it hadn’t seemed so worn and dirty. A couple of chairs beside the bed looked like someone had sat in them wearing muddy clothes, and they were never cleaned. The bathroom grout had mold, and the area behind the sink looked white even though it’s naturally black, as if it wasn’t cleaned often. The carpet beside the bed looked dirty too. There was no basic clothing iron or hot water kettle. We got one litre of still water and one sparkling water each day, and that was all. When we asked for more water, which was only filtered tap water, the staff seemed annoyed. The TV was very old, but we didn’t really mind.

Breakfast was great, and the room was compact. The hotel sits on the peaceful Buda side, with a prime location and good public transport links. The service was good too. Highly recommended.

The staff made the biggest impression on us, with a level of warmth and professionalism we haven't found elsewhere. The room was lovely and very well maintained, and the central location is beautiful. It may be listed as four-star, but to me it deserves five stars in every way. Highly recommended.

Set at the quiet northern end of Castle Hill, the hotel was peaceful at night. The rooms are roomy and charmingly decorated, and breakfast in the bistro was delicious. The staff were just lovely.
