I thought this wouldn't happen to me, but it did. A few hours before check-in, the property cancelled my booking after saying my card was "invalid." They'd messaged that I could "pay at the property," but when we arrived, there was no one there and no reception, just an old building with a bunch of rooms. I called, and the woman told me to update the card. I did. It's my everyday card and my bank had no issues with it. She said their "finance department" had marked it invalid and cancelled the reservation. Then she offered to book again through booking.com, obviously at a much higher price, or help me find another hotel. The service was horrible and disgraceful. The worst part was booking.com wouldn't help, sided with the property, and said there was nothing they could do. I booked another hotel that same day with the same card and got amazing service. I hope you see this before booking on booking.com, because they charge a cancellation fee if you cancel before arrival. I have no idea how they're still allowed to use this loophole. Please leave a negative review and report them on booking.com if this happens to you.
