The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the walls were dirty. It was a double bed but came with only two single blankets, each too short to cover anyone taller than about 1.30 m. I left because the place was horrible, but the owner had already made me pay for the entire stay and refused to refund me. He pretended to be an employee, gave me a fake name, and claimed his boss wouldn’t believe I was leaving. He also said he couldn’t cancel the Hostelworld reservation. Customer support confirmed that cancellation was possible. In my experience, the owner showed no ethical business behavior or hospitality skills. If you want to enjoy Budapest, stay somewhere else.

We spent one night at the hostel and woke up with several bedbug bites. The place itself wasn’t clean, and the bathroom was pretty gross. When we raised the bites, the staff denied responsibility and said it was our problem instead of offering help. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There are plenty of better options.

The location was decent, just off the main road and about a minute from the nearest tram stop. You can also walk there from Nyugati main station in around 15-20 minutes. I picked this hostel years ago because I was a broke student and it had the cheapest rooms, so make of that what you will. It was an interesting stay. As I remember, it wasn’t very clean, though the owner and staff were really friendly. We went out together one night, which was good craic, even though some of the group got into a fight. One guest was trying to hit on one of the staff girls, which was always fun. The bathroom was odd and constantly flooded and damp, which put me off. Maybe they’ve improved it since.

The staff were really nice, but the hostel needs a makeover. There are four or five rooms, with three or four beds each, and just one toilet and shower for the women. The men have two shower stalls and one toilet. The bathrooms need urgent renovation, though the water is warm. A sign in the kitchen says it’s only for making tea and coffee. That’s probably for the best, since the pots and pans available were gross. There’s a working microwave and an electric kettle. I know the price is low, but they still need to meet some basic hygiene standards.

I really appreciated how the employees handled an emergency. My friend had missed her train out of Budapest, and even though it was well past their usual working hours, they quickly got another bed ready when I asked. She didn’t have enough cash to pay the full price, so they made an exception because it was an emergency. That was a very kind gesture. The hostel was clean and quiet. I could find people to talk with when I wanted company and have privacy when I needed it. The employees were friendly, greeting me with a smile each morning and saying goodbye when I headed out. This was one of my best hostel stays, and I can only recommend it.
