Rottenbillerhouse No 8

We were given a completely different apartment from the one we paid for. When I raised the issue with the owner, who speaks English very well, he kept pushing his own story instead of listening and answering my simple question. We eventually stopped arguing because we’d come to Budapest to enjoy ourselves, so we accepted what we were given. After an hour, we noticed the place was very dirty and hadn’t been cleaned properly at all. I uploaded photos so you can see. The bed was a click-clack one. We were supposed to sleep on the red sofa, which was horribly dirty, so they gave us this click-clack instead. If we hadn’t pushed the matter, I might have gotten some disease. We were meant to leave the apartment at 11am. We had to chase and call the owner to ask where to leave the keys, but nobody came, so we left them hanging on the door. A very, very poor and unprofessional experience.

We were happy with the apartment in the end, and there was enough room for us. But we had planned a birthday party for my baby boy based on the place we originally booked, and the replacement apartment had a smaller living room. They changed our reservation without telling us. I think guests should be informed about a change like that.

I left the next day as soon as I could. The apartment was extremely dirty and smelled as if meat had been frying nonstop, and the broken door meant I couldn't lock it overnight. Check-in was a mess too, with nobody answering the door or phone while I waited outside for 30 minutes. Afterward, the owner wouldn't refund the remaining money or issue an invoice, and I had to chase him for four days in a row.

The staff were really helpful, and the place is in a great spot. A really nice place to stay!
