Park Hotel Bükfürdő

We spent four days and three nights here with a couple of friends. I was surprised by how different this visit was from our last trip to Bük 15 years ago, when we stayed in a self-catering apartment. Now that we’re older, we wanted somewhere nicer and more comfortable. The hotel is rated four stars, with new, comfortable furniture. We also had a well-equipped kitchenette, microwave, and coffee maker. The heating was easy to regulate, and there was an electric towel warmer in the bathroom. The staff were kind and attentive. Our buffet breakfast had good quality food and drinks and met all our needs. We used the bowling and jacuzzi in our free time, and parking was free with plenty of space. We went swimming one day and also took trips to larger towns 25-30 km away. At Hordó restaurant, we received a complimentary lunch that was excellent in both quality and portion size. Don’t take it as a threat, but we’ll be back with our family.

The air conditioner was so noisy that we couldn’t relax, even when it was switched off. The bathroom boiler only provided about five minutes of hot water, so two of us couldn’t shower one after the other without running out. During our four-day stay the room wasn’t cleaned once, and the trash wasn’t taken away. There was no shampoo, tissue, or toilet seat in the spa. Calling this a four-star hotel feels misleading. It’s an apartment building next to the spa. We were hugely disappointed, and if you expect four-star service, don’t choose this place.

We booked directly through the hotel website for our three-day trip to Bük. It was quick and easy, and cost only a little more than Booking. The place is modern and nice, the rooms are huge, especially with the terrace, and the equipment is good. The staff are helpful. When we arrived, we asked for help with the air conditioning heat, and they fixed it right away. We ended up not needing it, since we had a good time throughout. The bathroom was spotless. The shower hose was in perfect shape, not broken or leaking, and the drain handled the water properly. Cleanliness was generally good, though we did spot a few crumbs on arrival. The “Cleaning required” sign we hung on the door handle the second morning didn’t get much response. There was also an unemptied bin, but it only had a few pieces of paper in it. Those little oversights were livable, since we weren’t moving in for months and don’t even empty our own trash every day at home. We added breakfast and dinner to our stay. Dinner was a buffet at nearby Hordó restaurant, about five minutes away by car, and it was excellent. Breakfast at the hotel was a little more interesting, and we were happy with it each time. During peak season the hotel was nearly full, which may explain why the tea bags that ran out on Monday weren’t replenished by Tuesday. At least I could make black tea, English Breakfast, on Wednesday. It would have helped if the different tea bags, even if unlabelled, were kept in their own box so we didn’t have to sniff them to find the black tea. There was plenty to choose from at breakfast: fresh crisp rolls, sliced bread, cold cuts, cheeses, vegetables, cookies, fruit, scrambled eggs, and sausages. Anyone who wanted to eat had plenty to eat. I think there’s room for improvement, and the four-star rating feels a bit exaggerated for now. To me it’s more like a solid three-star place, but I can confidently recommend it as much better than average, and we’d return if we get the chance. I hope the hotel finds guests who appreciate that quality.

The breakfast was varied and tasty, and the staff were kind and helpful. It’s very clean, new, and spacious, with good parking and a great location. The value for money is hard to beat. We’ll definitely come back.
