Bacchus Hotel Panzi

We spent two days here with the family, and are seriously thinking about coming back for a week just to relax. It’s a good walk from downtown, though the wine cellars are a short walk away. The rooms were nice and clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. Downstairs, the open restaurant area includes breakfast, and there’s a yard with a BBQ out back. The front desk being the bar counter was a surprise when we came in. They have good local wines and a nice selection of drinks, and even served me a Palinka at 7 in the morning without asking questions.

Szépasszonyvölgy (Lovely Lady Valley) is right beside the hotel, a beautiful valley with cellars built into the hills where you can try the renowned local wine. Definitely try the Egri Bikaver and the Leanyka. My husband and I had a wonderful romantic side trip here during our visit to Hungary. The restaurant serves fantastic Hungarian meals, and breakfast was included. The rooms have a pretty view, and everything is within walking distance, from the cobblestone town streets and market to the cathedrals and castle. The train station is walkable too, though the owner kindly picked us up and dropped us back off.

Good value for the price in Eger, with free breakfast and a restaurant and bar on site. The staff were fantastic and accommodating. You can walk to everything, about 15 minutes to downtown and two minutes to the valley of beautiful women.
