Apartment Rideg Hévíz

Our room was clean, neat, and renovated, almost like new. The bed was another story: one side of the double bed was broken, so someone had to use a mattress. It was fixed the next day, which earned the place a second star. The shared kitchen stayed locked, and we never got a key. Reception was awful. The older woman was unfriendly, rude, and seemed out of her depth, assigning rooms as she pleased. We'd booked a deluxe room but were sent to an inferior one in the neighboring building, and she wouldn't accept complaints about it. Also, during evening and nighttime storms, the power often went out. That's frustrating and can be bad for electronics, like phones left charging. Definitely wouldn't recommend it.

We couldn't get any rest. The family noise started around 6 or 7 in the morning, with constant chatter and shouting in German from one unit to another, loud enough to wake us and keep us awake. The room was cramped, barely enough space to sleep, and the person helping the owner, an "old friend," spent time there as a holiday guest with his family in rooms meant for guests. The owner is a nice old lady, but she's so elderly that she needs help and can't manage the work alone. What was called an apartment was a room of barely 15 square meters with its own shower and toilet, plus a shared kitchen. The social room barely worked, and the large fridge was out of order. The tiny fridge in the room could only fit about one soft drink bottle and a few small things. There was a TV with around 20 German channels and 5 or 6 Hungarian ones. It was a bizarre, irritating experience. I was so angry I nearly cried several times, and I would never go back.

The hosts were incredibly warm and friendly, and the location was good. It's very affordable too, a good fit if you're hoping to vacation in Hungary on a fairly tight budget.

A really pleasant place for a vacation. It seems to be right in the center, but it's tucked away from the busy route.
