The only real plus here is the location. We had a hole in the roof, and once it rained, water kept dripping straight onto the bed. On top of that, the room and bedclothes were dirty and there was a horrible smell. Around 23:30, a man and a woman in the next room started shouting at each other in Hungarian. It sounded as if they might kill one another. I called the owners, but they spoke neither English nor German, Polish, Slovak, or anything else I could use, and they just hung up. In the morning, we found out the people who had been yelling all night were the owners themselves. The owners also didn’t speak English. I know it’s a cheap apartment, but that doesn’t make it a madhouse. It was literally one of the worst nights I’ve ever had. If you’re after an extreme experience, welcome to Feher Hinto.

Dirt, crumbs, and cobwebs everywhere, and that musty sewage smell is awful. No idea who had slept in the bed linen before us. We got three towels, but they were more like hand towels, and the fabric felt like wiping ourselves with a nylon bag. The hooting was unbearable.

The health risk here is greater than any unusual experience is worth, so I really can’t recommend it to anyone, not even if you’re looking for an adventure. The place is terribly below standard. It was cold enough in the room that we had to sleep in sweaters and pull the covers right over ourselves. The room was filthy, with cobwebs; the plates and bed linen were unwashed. The kitchen wasn’t even minimally equipped, contrary to the description. The only thing better than sleeping outside is that hot water is available, if you’re patient enough to wait several minutes for it to reach the tap through the water pipe. Card payment wasn’t possible, we weren’t given a bill, and the guests staying there weren’t registered. The cut power cord on the indoor unit, along with the wall-mounted air conditioner that has no outdoor unit, sums up the hostel’s attitude toward its guests.
