Really excellent.

The house blends modern comforts with its original exterior and interior, and the restoration is lovely. It’s also a great place to properly switch off, with no signal, and it worked well for us with children. The owners were very kind, and served filling, delicious breakfasts and dinners made with homemade ingredients. There’s plenty of energy for a full day’s walk nearby, where you may spot deer, squirrels and voles. The area also has some remarkably well-preserved 19th-century manors, so anyone drawn to monarchy-era architecture should come by.

The hosts know the forests and local history inside out, and are the area’s main nature conservationist. They’re also incredibly friendly. Breakfast was homemade, with ingredients they grow themselves, plus their own bread and pastries, and it beat breakfasts I’ve had at wellness hotels. A perfect village stay in the forest. We felt so at home that we’ll definitely come back. The rooms and shared spaces are tastefully decorated, with beautiful architectural details kept intact. Our attentive hosts made delicious breakfasts and dinners. The host took time to show us the house, explain how its systems work and introduce us to the animals. By the Boki-Danube, he also demonstrated fishing and gave us a fascinating talk about life in the floodplain.
