Hunguest Hotel Sóstó

The first night was uncomfortable because we found several bugs in the room, about 7-8. Communication was also hard, since the staff spoke very little English. We had booked an Executive Room but were given a Standard one. When we went back to reception, the receptionist struggled to understand us. We'd already unpacked, so we kept the room and asked for a refund of the price difference. They couldn't provide one and suggested spending that amount at the hotel, which wasn't convenient. There were good points too. The rooms were warm and very quiet during our October stay, and the lobby by the hotel bar was nice. The hotel is new and modern, with green space and a lake around it, plus a beautiful multimedia fountain right next door. Its location near the zoo and Aquarius Spa is excellent. The heated tunnel goes directly to Aquarius, and hotel guests get free spa access.

The renovated hotel and rooms look nice, and the location is good. The elevators are unbelievably slow. The food was very average, nowhere near four-star standard, and we had expected better spa facilities too, although that's not strictly the hotel's issue.

The pools were dirty and full of dead skin, and there was a urine smell around the bathrooms every day, with water all over the floor. It was absolutely disgusting. Food tasted good but there wasn't much variety. Once the fruit ran out, it wasn't replaced, and there was nothing for young children. Everything had salt and extra sugar. The playroom was so small and didn't open until 9 am, even though the kids wake much earlier. Staff didn't speak English, which made things difficult, and it cost much more than other Hunguest hotels for no reason. We came as a family and booked three rooms. I'd been looking forward to the trip, but this was the worst Hunguest hotel I've stayed at, out of four. The one in Gyula was the best, and I really recommend it. I won't come back.

The area is laid out so thoughtfully that people of every age can enjoy themselves, and just about everything is a hop, skip, and jump away. The location is fantastic. The hotel has a luxurious look and feel, with spacious, clean rooms and great food. It's one of the best hotels I've stayed in Hungary.
