Corso Hotel Pécs

The hallway had a live plant beside the door, but no window anywhere nearby. It was clearly suffering. I don't know if plants thrive in total darkness in Hungary, but elsewhere we put them where there's light. We stay at this hotel regularly through our company, but this time the room was nowhere near what I'd expect from a 4-star hotel. The walls and carpets were dirty, the bathroom soap ran out after I washed my hands twice, and shower soap had spilled everywhere with none left in the dispenser. There were short black hairs on the floor that definitely weren't mine. Green lights on two switches beside each bed stayed on all night and really disturbed my sleep. The night before, we paid the same amount for a 4-star hotel in Szeged, and the difference was huge.

Pèçs was a lovely surprise, and our corner room was bright and spacious. Breakfast was just OK, with little choice, and we felt like we were intruding if we stayed past 9:30. Cleaning was on demand only. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful while looking things up, but they left out information we really needed. Nobody explained that the room key had to go in with the hotel logo facing out, and the key card we got had no logo. On day two our key was taken away, with no explanation. We were also given bad directions to the hotel parking lot, sending us the wrong way up a one-way street. Nobody told us to refuse the ticket at the barrier, so we ended up making a large cash payment in exact change, all small denominations. We won't be back.

The location was good, the service was good, and the price was reasonable. There's also a pretty decent restaurant. Nice place, recommended.

We had a great stay. The rooms were nice and large, breakfast was awesome, and for us this is definitely the best hotel in Pecs.
