Nap Hostel

The staff were incredibly friendly, maybe some of the nicest hostel staff I've come across, so I arrived with a great first impression. But I couldn't get comfortable there. The bathroom door wouldn't stay shut, and neither the toilet nor bathroom could be locked. I hope they've fixed that since my visit. The room itself was cute and didn't have too many beds, though my blanket looked dirty. Overnight, one drunk guest made such loud noises in his sleep, screaming, burping and farting, that I couldn't sleep at all. He seemed kind of creepy to me, and shortly before 6am, once it was light out, I decided to leave as fast as I could. I felt completely uncomfortable. Such a shame when Pécs is such an amazing city. Maybe I'd have rated the hostel higher without that guy.

The location made things easy: it's right in historic Pécs, close to landmarks, with grocery shops on the same street that stay open from early morning until almost midnight. Nappali is the bar downstairs, and there's a back entrance through the building so you don't need to walk around to get there. I was going through a difficult time when my partner and I arrived, and the staff were incredibly kind and understanding. They helped however they could. The place itself was great too. Our dorm had five bunk beds, each with a reading light, and plenty of sockets. There was a kitchen with everything needed for cooking, including an oven, plus a lounge by reception with comfy chairs, a sofa, books and good wifi. Outside, the enclosed courtyard felt fairly private, apart from other hostel guests and residents. We had a great stay, and I'd definitely recommend it.

I used to visit regularly, and everything had been fine before. Then, the last time I booked, they cancelled just one day before I was due to arrive because a large group was coming. It caused a lot of trouble with rebooking and rearranging my trip. I haven't gone back since.

We were three people traveling with bikes, and the secure backyard was really useful for keeping them. The rooms are spacious, and the woman who welcomed us was helpful, witty and kind, though unfortunately we forgot her name. The hostel is in a perfect spot, with a bar right underneath where you can easily go for a drink. It can get pretty hot inside because there's no AC or fan. I can understand leaving those out, though, since it would be difficult to make everyone sharing a room comfortable.
