Bükkös Hotel**** & Spa

What bothered us most was the lack of clear communication and the dismissive, unprofessional response. We weren’t focused on the money itself. We wanted to understand what had happened and why we were charged more, but the staff, especially one woman at the front desk, were extremely rude and offered no solution. The hotel wouldn’t take responsibility or resolve the issue. We had specifically chosen the big room with a sofa. We asked about the sofa on the phone, then checked again before arrival that our room had one. The front desk staff misunderstood “sofa” as “so far” and couldn’t follow the basic question. There was clearly a major mix-up during booking. We were charged 139 euros, though the listed prices were 125 euros for the small room and 135 euros for the big one. Even at night, no one could clearly explain why we’d been charged that amount.

Breakfast was a real plus, with fresh food and something new each day. The hotel is small, which suited us, since even in August it never felt crowded. Our room was quiet and comfortable, and the air conditioning was much appreciated during the hottest days of the summer so far. Parking worked out fine. There’s an underground garage, but we didn’t need it because we always found a free space behind the hotel. Just be careful if you have a larger car, as the garage is small.

The breakfast was excellent, and the room and spa were both very clean. We went to the spa in the evening and had it to ourselves, with no other people there. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely choose Bükkös Hotel again on our next visit to Szentendre.

We got to town after biking in the heat and were able to check in early, which meant we could cool off in the great air conditioning. The woman at reception was friendly and very helpful, and her English was excellent for us as visitors from Canada. Later, after seeing the town sights, we had a glass of local Chardonnay on the rooftop terrace. A wonderful stay, and I’d highly recommend it.
