Corner Panzió

Szentendre turned out to be a wonderful choice after we couldn't find a place to stay in Budapest. Corner Panzio is well placed by a picturesque square with its own little Christmas market, and the Danube is nearby too. It's a 15-minute walk to the train station, so getting to Budapest is quick and easy. The decor is a bit dated, but the place was clean and quiet, the staff were friendly, and we had a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

Don't go there. The service was awful, and the restaurant was terrible.

The room had a radio going in one corner and a TV on the other side, which made for a bizarre atmosphere. It was hard to tell who was a guest and who was the waiter right up until the end. Some of the menu seemed Serbian, but we never saw the Serbian owner, who was drinking at another bar. The only thing we learned was that the waitress didn't like him. It wasn't the cheapest place either.

The sunny patio is set on a large square, with a view of the Danube on one side and the Old Town on the other. Inside, there are little banknotes from different currencies above the corner and along a wall, which makes it interesting to sit indoors too. Corner Panzió is in Szentendre's Old Town beside the Danube, about 20 kilometers north of Budapest's center, and it's a handy spot for walking around the other parts of the Old Town, where I've been many times. The menu is long, but they offer it in several languages, which helps if you're a foreign visitor. The food ranges from traditional Hungarian dishes to lots of Serbian options. We chose the Serbian Mixed Meat BBQ Plate for two so we could try several Serbian specialties at once, and had a tasty Radler, half lemonade and half beer. The owner and staff were very nice and happy to help. The food and the view make Corner Panzió a great place to visit. From Szentendre with Love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann
