Hunor Hotel és Étterem

We arrived at noon on June 29 with a Booking.com reservation and had a terrible time with the service. It was hard to find anyone who spoke even basic English, and the staff who did speak it seemed eager to get rid of us. They said our room wouldn’t be ready until 2:00. When we asked to leave our luggage somewhere, they said there was no luggage room, though everything was supposedly handled in one place. What they called reception was really just the restaurant and bar, with no usual front desk. For two hours, we were treated like bags of sand, despite the hotel being empty. We weren’t offered a glass of water or any empathy. We suspected the waiters also cleaned the rooms. They cleaned the bar floor, then served food with the same hands. The hotel occupies several buildings that seem to have once belonged to the army and now to a hunting organization. The renovation looks modern, but the rooms are extremely bare, with separate beds throughout. It felt like a shelter, not somewhere to enjoy staying. There was only a bathroom soap dispenser, the minibar was empty, and the window opened only a quarter of the way. We left early the next morning and went to the so-called reception, which was also the breakfast room, at 6:00 so I could pack my things on the bike. Again, we were spoken to harshly and nearly thrown out. It was very difficult to get a glass of water. The front line staff need to be changed; they seemed to have neither the ability nor the willingness to help. They may be relatives or associates of the management. Tourists should avoid the hotel, and maybe even the city. The thermal baths were dirty and bare, nothing special, and you can easily find something better farther north.

The food was my main problem. Breakfast was unpredictable: one day a buffet, the next day you had to order, but the choices were the same each time. Lunch and dinner were greasy, dry, hard, and seemed frozen or premade rather than fresh. There were no salads, likely because they’d need to be kept fresh, so meals felt dry without them. The rooms themselves were fairly clean and modern, though I found hair in my bed and saw insects in the hotel.

No one spoke English, and it was really noisy at night because there was a wedding at the hotel. They didn’t make the bed or change our towels.

The food had a fantastic range and was excellent. Service was quick, and our waiter Jozsef was a standout, funny and professional. Recommended, keep up the great work.
