Hotel Vár Kastélyszálló

The room had a nice view, but cleanliness needs work. There was a huge spiderweb in the heater, a spider in the shower, and we killed several stink bugs. The bed wasn't very comfortable either. I wouldn't call this a wellness place just because it has a mini pool.

The whole experience was very disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. It looks quite old, and the rooms closer to the roof are tiny, so I'm not sure they're worth the price. The rooms were clean and equipped, but very basic. We booked ahead, but one of the rooms they first offered had only a sealed roof window and was so small the door barely opened. It was much smaller than our other rooms and didn't match the pictures online. After a long discussion at reception, we were moved to a better-looking room in the category we'd booked. We thought things might be okay after all, then breakfast came. Of the two pieces of French bread we'd ordered, one had three flies stuck inside, and there was another small bug on the other piece. When we showed the waitress, a manager came over a few minutes later, said she was sure the toast had left the kitchen without flies, and walked away. At checkout, another manager shouted at us and claimed we'd put the flies there ourselves to get another meal.

There was some noise at night since the kitchen was next to our room and the stairs, so we could hear people walking on them. The room was good enough, though the bathroom felt a little low quality. The staff were very kind, especially the man at reception, who was polite and friendly.

The staff were nice, but the attic room was tiny, with a one-square-meter shower, so don't drop the soap. The Wi-Fi was hopeless, the building was old, and there was no lift. We went to the hotel restaurant for dinner, but nobody acknowledged us, so after 10 minutes we left and ate next door at Renaissance Restaurant. Great meal and attentive staff. Tourism is competitive.
