The clean sheets and towels were a plus, and Zebegény itself is beautiful with nice people. With some care and attention, I can imagine this becoming a charming retro place, but as it was, I can't recommend it. It was among the worst value-for-money stays I've seen. The yard was a mess, with muddy puddles, overturned cabinets, and dog droppings hidden in roughly 20 cm of weeds. They came to collect those after we complained, though they only partly succeeded, so with small children we avoided that area. Parking was difficult too. The lot in front of the house was a mud pit, and a sign at the street entrance prohibited parking there, so we had to leave the car farther away. There was a constant sewer smell in the bathroom. Since its door opens straight into the bedroom, we kept it shut most of the time. One evening a woman with two dogs came to the gate and said she was staying there, even though we'd rented the whole house. At that point it felt like a Benny Hill show.

We’ve stayed here with family and friends for two years in a row, and the improvements made during our second visit this year met all our needs. The owner was easygoing and flexible. We could unload right outside the house, then park by the nearby playground, which is still a manageable walk. Shops, springs, viewpoints, beaches, and friends are all easy to reach. It’s a great base for outings, and we’re planning to come again next year. Thanks for the lovely experience!
